Following the success of previous STECH Symposium held in Yokohama, JAPAN(1993), Birmingham, UK(1996), Tokyo, JAPAN(2003) and Chengdu, CHINA(2006), it was decided to hold the 5th international symposium at the Toki Messe(Niigata Convention Center), Niigata, JAPAN in 2009. The objectives of STECH'09, the 5th international symposium on speed-up, safety and service technology for railway and maglev systems, are to present and discuss the state of the art of the scientific and technical aspects of high speed railway, MAGLEV and urban transportation systems. This symposium will bring the opportunity for expert engineers, researchers and scientists in the railway fields to communicate and exchange common and/or latest information about vehicle, facility, infrastructure, and total transportation systems.
